This is mainly reblogs. Personal blog is HERE.
An example of reasons my mother and I are different:
I can study an animal that used to kind of creep me out, and I will gradually find its beauty (Unless the animal is an insect of the too-many-legs variety. That’s too big a jump for right now.) But yes, I will grow to appreciate creatures, creatures I used to ignore because they weren’t cats or giraffes or penguins. After all, they are all living, precious parts of the world’s complex systems.
My mom just sees certain animals and is like, “Ew, no.”
Oh well.
"There’s so much to learn from immersion in the unfamiliar. The benefit is a heightened sense of empathy and compassion — along with a sprinkling of humility. Chance invites spontaneity and play, which fuel creativity. Being open to chance — wherever you are — is a fearless act.”
